About our Equal Opportunity Day Celebration (EOD)
Thursday, December 2, 2021

The Equal Opportunity Day Dinner and Celebration (EOD) is Urban League of Greater Hartford’s signature annual fundraising event to support programs and operations in the areas of Youth Development, Adult Education, Workforce Development and Training, Economic Enrichment, and Health and Wellness and Young Professional Community Engagement.

EOD also serves as a platform to award the League’s highest commendations to those individuals and corporations that demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunity and exhibit leadership for the cause of equity and social justice.  Through EOD, Urban League of Greater Hartford celebrates the accomplishments of local leaders who embody the agency’s mission while raising funds to support individuals and families in our service communities.

We invite you to support the event as a corporate sponsor, by purchasing an ad in the program book, virtually attending, or just sharing it with friends.

A SEASON OF HOPE: Reflect. Restore. Renew

The Equal Opportunity Day Celebration annually honors the dedicated work of our staff, the generous contributions of partners and the priceless accomplishments of our program participants.

2021 has introduced us to a season of hope. With the coronavirus vaccine increasing numbers of members of our community who can participate in reopening activity, legislative attention given to police reform and alternative response to crisis, and corporate social responsibility investing more in communities of color and looking inwardly at racial equity practices, we recognize the significant work that still lies ahead, but embrace the progress and optimism that is aligned with the Urban League Movement.

Our awards recipients this year are:

  • Jim Loree, Stanley Black and Decker President and CEO

  • Shawn Wooden, Connecticut State Treasurer

  • Tiffany Young, Hartford Yard Goats Executive Director

  • Pat Kelly, Ebony Horsewomen Chief Executive Officer

  • Cheryl Smith (posthumous), Artists Collective Co-Founder

  • Curtis Porter, CREC School Choice Program Manager

Proceeds benefit the agency’s Youth Development, Adult Education, Workforce Development, Economic Enrichment, Community Health, and Social Justice programs.
